Meeting New People

Sorry, I don't have any cute pictures to go along with this post. I don't have any fun project to share today, either. I would just like to take a moment to acknowledge one of the unexpected side effects to blogging and starting my Etsy shop - meeting new people.

I'm not the most outgoing person. I can't just strike up a conversation with a stranger. This crafting endeavor has taken me a bit out of my comfort zone because I know that in order to be successful it will mean selling my ideas and creations through pictures, writing, and the most difficult for me (gasp!) talking to actual people. It's easy for me to sit at home and come up with ideas and make stuff. It's not so easy to talk about them and try to sell them to folks I barely know.

When I am out and about, I almost always have at least one item that I have made with me. It may be a piece of jewelry, an article of clothing, or an accessory like a purse. My reasoning (besides the fact that I love the things I make) is that someone may comment on the item and that gives me the boost I need to start talking.

Fortunately, I frequently get comments about that special item I have with me. And the folks noticing my craftsmanship are pretty cool -from the ladies at the local yarn shop and craft stores to my hairstylist and the lady at the sushi restaurant. It was truly nice to meet you and thank you for sharing your interest, ideas, and passion for the carefully handcrafted!

Love it? Share it. Make it.
