3 Festive Napkin Folds for Thanksgiving or Any Day

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Hopefully your meal preparation is going smoothly. At our house, the ribs are on the barbecue, the potatoes are boiling on the stove, the green bean casserole is in the oven and the homemade cranberry sauce is bubbling in the crockpot. I can hardly wait for dinner.

While the cooks are in the kitchen, I'm going to enlist some help from the younger and older generations for table setting duty. You can do the same. Here are three fun napkin folds that will brighten up your holiday table or at least keep the rest of the family occupied as last minute meal preparations are underway.

Three Napkin Folding Techniques: The Pyramid, The French Pleat and The Lotus or Rose

    The Pyramid - Easy

How to fold a Pyramid Napkin | The Chilly Dog

Lay your napkin on the table as shown.
Fold in half diagonally, bottom to top.
Fold the right corner of the triangle up so that it meets the top corner.
Fold the left corner of the triangle up so that it meets the top corner.
    Turn the napkin over.
Fold in half, top to bottom.
Fold in half, left to right.
Grasp the napkin at the last fold.
Lift it so the napkin is standing.

    The French Pleat - Intermediate

How to fold a French Pleat napkin | The Chilly Dog

Place your napkin on the table and fold it in half, bottom to top.
Fold it in half, left to right.
Pick up the top three layers of napkin from the upper right corner.
    Fold them in half, diagonally.
Pick up the top layer from the bottom left corner.
Fold it so that the corner is just barely tucked under the remaining two layers.
Pick up the next layer from the bottom left corner.
Fold it so that the edge is parallel to and slightly lower than the previous fold and is tucked under the last layer.
Lift the last layer and fold it so it is parallel to and slightly lower than the previous fold.
    Carefully turn the napkin over.
Fold in the left edge of the napkin a little.
Fold in the right edge of the napkin.
    Turn it over.
    Slide in your silverware.

    The Lotus - Advanced

How to fold a Lotus Napkin | The Chilly Dog

Lay your napkin on the table. Fold a corner to the center of the napkin.
    Repeat with the remaining corners.
Fold the four new corners to the center.
    Carefully flip the napkin over.
Fold the four corners to the center again. This time, you will need to hold them there or they will unfold.
Gently pull out one of the corner flaps from the bottom of the napkin to form a petal.
Repeat with the remaining three corners.
Pull out the four small flaps beneath the straight edges of the napkin.

Place your lotus napkin onto the dinner plate.
