Thanksgiving Conversation Starters

I'm not a huge fan of holidays. Sometimes I find the commercialism a bit overwhelming. For example, I'm not ready to start buying Christmas decorations in mid-October when the displays start popping up in stores. It just stresses me out. Maybe that's why I find Thanksgiving to be such an appealing holiday. Gathering with friends and family to share a meal, count our blessings, and have some meaningful conversations is just a happy idea.

This project is a quick, inexpensive, and fun way to get those conversations going. Some of the questions:

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? cranberry sauce, homemade, not the stuff from the can
What is one thing you would like to learn how to do? play the guitar
How many pairs of shoes do you have? Umm... 23 and I am thankful for every one!

So, before you bake the pie, mash the potatoes, or even thaw out the turkey, take a few minutes to put together this conversation starter kit, perfect for your next gathering.

  • 4 pieces of 8 1/2" x 11" white or cream colored cardstock
  • scissors
  • small decorative container
  • curling ribbon
  • colored tissue paper (optional)

Print the Thanksgiving Conversation Starters on cardstock. There are three pages with some fun question cards and one page of blank cards where you can write your own questions if you choose.

Cut along the dotted lines.

Decorate your container with ribbon and fill with some tissue. Attach the card that says what's in the container.

I bought a small metal pail from the dollar section at Target. You can find little metal containers at craft stores, dollar stores, or maybe even the grocery store for $1 or less. You could also use a small holiday themed box or gift bag.

Fill your container with the conversation starter cards.

When your guests are gathered each person can choose and answer their own card or one person can pick a card to ask someone else. Whatever works for you. It's all about having some fun!
