Christmas Conversation Starters

The Thanksgiving leftovers are finally gone. You know what that means. Christmas is just around the corner. It's a month of hustle and bustle. There are trees to trim, gifts to wrap, and carols to sing. It can be tricky to keep sight of the meaningful parts of the holiday in all the tinsel and lights.

Years ago, a close friend gave me a metal tin filled with Christmas conversation starters. Our family has enjoyed it each year, so I came up with my own version to share. I usually make one to give if we do an office gift exchange. It's easy and inexpensive. Some of the questions:

What is your favorite holiday tradition? Mmm... Making and eating tamales with the whole family.

Do you prefer handmade or store bought gifts? Handmade. I appreciate the time someone spent making something just for me.

Do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning? My family makes me wait until Christmas morning, but I'd like to be naughty and open them all on Christmas Eve

  • 4 pieces of 8 1/2" x 11" white or cream colored cardstock
  • scissors
  • small decorative container
  • curling ribbon
  • colored tissue paper (optional)

Print the Christmas Conversation Starters on cardstock. There are three pages with some fun question cards and one page of blank cards where you can write your own questions if you choose.

Cut along the dotted lines.

Decorate your container with ribbon and fill with some tissue. Attach the card that says what's in the container.

I used a holiday themed, gift box. You could also use a small metal container. You can find these at craft stores, dollar stores, or party supply stores for less than a dollar. Another inexpensive option would be a little gift bag.

Fill your container with the conversation starter cards.

We like to answer a question or two as a family each evening in December. It's interesting how everyone's answers change a bit each year. It would also be fun to do at a Christmas party or after Christmas dinner. Happy Holidays!
