Disneyland Map Bracelet

As I've said before, I love Disneyland and California Adventure! My daughter and I were out there for our annual trip just a couple weeks ago. We have a few traditions when we visit the parks:
  • A Disneyland day starts on the Matterhorn Bobsleds
  • The Teacups are meant to spin as fast as possible
  • We ride Heimlich's Chew Chew Train with our hands up like a roller coaster
  • Neither of us are brave enough to get on Mickey's Fun Wheel, or our preferred name for it, The Wheel of Doom
  • It's fun to sing (loudly) all the way through It's a Small World, even if the other passengers in the boat do not appreciate our wild enthusiasm
  • A Dole Whip is best enjoyed in the afternoon on a sunny bench in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle
On our recent trip, I picked up a few maps of the parks so I could create a little craft commemorating our Disneyland traditions. I decided a candy wrapper bracelet would be the perfect keepsake.

  • 1 piece of printer paper
  • scissors
  • 4 park maps
  • paper cutter
  • Elmer's glue
  • varnish
  • paint brush

If you have never made a candy wrapper bracelet before, check out my post about making bracelets from wrapping paper for detailed instructions about how to fold the paper and connect the links.

I started with my four maps. I was careful that they didn't get folded up or wrinkled on our trip. I used two from Disneyland and two from California Adventure.

Open up the maps.

Cut 22 rectangles out of the maps.

For a 7 3/4 inch bracelet, each rectangle should be 2 inches x 4 1/2 inches. For an 8 3/4 inch bracelet, each rectangle should be 2 1/4 inches x 5 inches.

I was very specific about how I cut each rectangle. I wanted to ensure that each square on the bracelet featured one of our favorite attractions or memories.

You can do this by locating an area of the map you would like to include on your bracelet, for example, the Mickey Mouse at the center of the compass.

Cut a template out of plain white paper that is the size of one of your rectangles and fold it as if you were making a link in the bracelet. Open the template up and cut out the square that will be visible when you connect your links together.

Place the template on the map and use it as a guide to cut your rectangles.

Once your rectangles are cut out, it's just a matter of folding each link and sliding them together. Again, if you need detailed folding and assembly instructions, check out my post about how to make candy wrapper bracelets from wrapping paper.

Use a drop of glue to secure the last link to the first. Apply a thin coat of varnish to add water resistance to your creation.

Enjoy wearing your bracelet and remembering the Happiest Place on Earth!

Amusement park maps are just the beginning for this project. Be creative and try other tourist maps and brochures you pick up in your travels to make a charming bracelet.
