Square Greeting Card

After giving my new sock monkey Christmas stamp from Stacey at Red Heel Revue on Etsy a try, I decided it would be a perfect accent for one of my favorite, non-traditional card designs, the square card. It's never too early to starting planning for Christmas!

Opening one of these square cards is like opening a gift. The design yields a card that has lots of room for writing a special message, maybe your Christmas wish list, while it is still compact enough to fit in an invitation size envelope.

  • 8 1/2 inch square of patterned paper
  • bone folder (optional)
  • embellishments (contrasting papers, stamps, ink, rivets, brads, ribbon... whatever you want to decorate it with)
  • adhesive to apply your embelishments

Start with your 8 1/2 inch square piece of paper with the pattern side up.

Fold it in half diagonally. You can use a bone folder to make very crisp folds if you choose.

Open the paper back up.

Flip your paper so the pattern side is face down.

Fold it in half horizontally then open it again.

Fold it in half vertically then open it again.

This is the trickiest part.

Bring the corners at the ends of the diagonal fold to the center of the card.

Then, your paper should easily collapse into a square.

That's it! All that's left is decorating the front and writing a message inside.

I decided to decorate my cards with some of the samples I made for my sock monkey stamp review. I had a few designs stamped on vellum and a few on some glossy paper.

I placed my stamped designs on some tags I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. Then I affixed them to the cards.

These will be perfect to send some holiday cheer over to my friend Jacquelyn at Our Epic Sock Monkey Christmas!
