Bear's Paw Paintings

The living room in our house has vaulted ceilings. It gives the space such an open and airy feeling. However, since some of the walls are quite tall, decorating them can be a bit of a challenge.

Shortly after we moved into our home I made a large quilt to hang on one of the tall walls. I used a quilt block called Bear's Paw. I love this block because I think it has a southwestern feel to it, perfect for Tucson.

When the walls in our living room were painted a dark blue, the quilt matched the decor beautifully.

After a few years, I changed the color scheme in our living room to aquas and browns. My beautiful quilt really didn't match, but I loved the pattern and was so proud of my work that I couldn't bear (ha ha) to take it down.

Since I have been dabbling with painting lately, I decided to update this wall with four paintings that incorporated the Bear's Paw motif and it was surprisingly simple.

Transforming a quilt block design into a four panel, painted work of art I started by drawing my pattern onto the canvas with a water soluble fabric marking pen.

Then, I repeated the process on three more canvases using the same color scheme, but varying the position of each color.

Here's the finished product. I still have my Bear's Paws, but now they tie into the color scheme of the room much better.
