Team Spirit Shrink Charm Jewelry

How to make jewelry charms with Sharpies and shrink plastic to show your team spiritI have a ruffled red and black scarf and a bleach pen shirt to show my spirit at my daughter's basketball games. What more could I need? A pair of Rockin' Raven earrings, of course!

A few months ago I bought some clear shrink plastic at the craft store, but haven't had the chance to try it, yet. It seemed like the perfect medium to create raven shaped charms for a set of earrings.

You can easily create charms to show your spirit for  whatever sports team you love, whether it's a professional or college team or you are a proud mom and the number one fan for your kid's team.

Directions

Print out the design you would like to use on your charms. Make sure they are about twice the width and height you would like your charm to be. I also flipped one of my ravens so that both ravens would be facing forward when I wear my earrings.
Cut out a piece of shrink film slightly bigger than your design. I used my Silhouette Cameo (blade depth 8, speed 4, thickness 33, double cut) to cut nice ovals, but you can cut the film with scissors, too. Tape the shrink film over the design so it doesn't move while you work.

Tip: make sure you  don't have a lot of narrow, pointy angles when you cut the plastic or it will curl up when you bake it.

I wanted to add a little more detail so I added a narrow red line near the edge of the plastic.
Punch holes in the plastic where you would like to connect the earring hardware.
Bake the shrink plastic according to the package directions, 350F for 2-3 minutes. You will want to place a piece of vellum or parchment paper under the plastic so it doesn't stick to your pan. That would not be good.

Once your charms have finished shrinking, you can use a spatula to flatten them out if necessary. Be careful. They will be hot.
Here you can see the size of my charms compared to the original design.

Finally use pliers to fit a metal jump ring through each hole and add  ear wires.

Now let's play some basketball.

Go, Empire Ravens!
