Knitting Tutorial: One Row Buttonhole

Cardigan Sweater Knitting Tutorial: Learn how to knit a sturdy, one row buttonhole
For many, many years, I used a traditional two row buttonhole in my cardigan sweater knitting. The process is easy to understand and it creates a decent result. Then I ventured out of my knitting comfort zone to try something new and I'll never look back. The one row buttonhole is, in my opinion, sturdier, neater, and just as easy to knit.

Before You Begin

Working a buttonhole over a single row of knitting is pretty straightforward. You begin by binding off a series of stitches along one edge of the buttonhole. Turn your work over. Cast on stitches on the opposite edge of the buttonhole. Turn your work over again and continue knitting your row, placing additional buttonholes as needed.
