The magic of double sided cast ons, like Judy's Magic Cast On, is that they allow you to knit in opposite directions on either side of the cast on stitches. This comes in very handy when when you're working short rows toes and you don't want to provisionally cast on stitches.
Thanks to Oink Pigments for providing the yarn and Skacel for providing the needles used in this tutorial. These products are available locally at many yarn shops and online at Oink Pigments and Makers' Mercantile.
Before You Begin
Judy's Magic Cast On is often used when you are knitting in the round, beginning with an enclosed end. I also like to use it when I am knitting toe up socks with short row toes. In this case, our cast on stitches will be across the top of the foot, at the base of the toes.
