In my opinion, knitting "in the round" is a misnomer. It's especially evident when you knit alternating two round stripes. Your stitches aren't neat stacks of rings, each two rounds tall. Instead, you get a very unsightly jog at the color change.

Before You Begin
There are a couple ways to neaten things up. The first is to knit helically with one ball of yarn for each round in the color pattern. Although the method completely eliminates the jog, it also makes your stripes slant like the stripes on a candy cane.
Instead, I like to twist my two yarns around each other when changing colors. Yes, the twist is visible on the wrong side of your knitting, but it's still neat and it greatly reduces the jog on the right side and allows your stripes to stack without being slanted.
