Fall has been a whirlwind of color, joy and excitement as I completed final preparations for my exhibit, The Nature of Rag Rug Weaving, which runs through December 12. The staff and volunteers at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center did an amazing job installing my work and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the artist reception on October 30. Working with them has been a delight! I'm also appreciative for the friends and family who support me. Having my own crowd of cheerleaders at the reception sure made it easier to get up and speak about my work, something that doesn't always come naturally to me.
Here's a behind-the-scenes peek at what's been happening in and out of the studio this fall, as well as a glimpse of the exhibit and reception.
Making hanging clamps for my tapestries. I never expected that being a weaver would force me to become a woodworker as well.
Picked some flowers from the yard before my friends come over for knitting this morning.
Spent a few days photographing every piece that will be in the exhibit so I can work on adding them to my on-line portfolio while they are on display.
Designed signs for the exhibit to explain a little bit about me, my loom, my family weaving history, and the overall weaving process.
The leaves haven't started to change yet, so butterflies are providing color along the trail.
Sorting the bits from my scrap buckets this morning because I don't know what else to do. I've spent most of the last 2 years thinking about and weaving pieces for my upcoming art exhibit. Now that preparations are mostly complete, I don't know what's next. It feels a bit like empty nest syndrome.
Q: Why did the crayfish cross the path? A: To get to the other side of the water.
This afternoon on the front porch.
My car is packed! 5 big boxes of handwoven textile art heading to the Carnegie Visual Arts Center.
Exhibit installation day at the Carnegie! Rick and Tom problem solving and hanging artwork with care.
When a sign perfectly captures your current mood.
Opening day at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center.
So excited to be supported by my family, community, and friends at the artist reception.
