Are you ready for some fun as we get those knitting needles clickety-clacking along? Then I hope you’ll join me and my friends from Makers’ Mercantile for some colorful views during our Funicular Cowl Knit Along.

We’ll be using a gradient ring of Schoppel’s Zauberperlen and a contrasting ball of Uniperle to knit a bandana cowl with contrasting edging and a geometric cog motif. The colorwork uses simple intarsia and mosaic knitting, two techniques that definitely won’t leave you stranded.

All aboard and welcome to Week 1 of the Funicular Cowl KAL. This week as we begin our journey, I’ll demonstrate the Cable CO, joining the contrasting yarn, working the i-cord edging on each side along with the lifted increase left used to shape the neckline and I’ll wrap things up with the intarsia-like color change that occurs at the beginning of the RS rows.

It’s week 2 of the Funicular Cowl KAL and this week we’re going to settle into our seats for some mosaic knitting. Today I’ll be sharing a handful of tips to help you understand how to read both the mosaic chart and your knitting to create a geometric cog motif. I’ll also give a quick demonstration of what happens at the Main Color change that occurs between Rows 12 and 13.

It’s Week 3 of the Funicular Cowl knit along and today I’m pulling into the station and binding off my cowl, but don’t fret if you’re still climbing the incline and working on the mosaic section. Just relax and enjoy your journey. I’ll start with a demonstration of the Icelandic BO and then talk briefly about blocking your cowl.

It’s the final week of our Funicular Cowl knit along journey with my friends from Makers’ Mercantile. Today we’ll prepare to disembark by joining two edges of the cowl together.
