The pinhole, disappearing, or invisible circular CO is primarily used for projects that are knit in the round and start with a small number of sts, usually 12 or less, like amigurumi, top down hats or toe-up socks. This type of cast on can be done with just your knitting needles, but if you find that too fidgety another option is to use a crochet hook.
