My weaving is often inspired by something I have seen or experienced in nature. However, there are times when I elect to more deeply examine an aspect from a previous project and/or experiment with a weaving technique. My Sand and Sea series is an example of the latter.

After creating a number of utilitarian rag rugs, Shoreline was one of my first artistic weavings. I wove it with 1 ½-inch fabric strips cut on the grain and used a clasped weft technique.

For my Sand and Sea series, I studied the same frothy boundary between the land and water using thinner, bias cut fabric strips which compress better and nearly hide the warp threads. Sand and Sea 3 is a smaller than both Sand and Sea 1 and Sand and Sea 2. It uses gentle curves and horizontal lines to create a more abstract depiction of the water's motion at the transition.
