Visiting Alaska with my husband was an unforgettable experience. I especially enjoyed our time at Mendenhall Glacier in the Tongass National Forest. After walking the Nugget Falls Trail to get a closer view of the glacier, we looped around the Steep Creek Trail.

The path was surprisingly un-crowded, perhaps because visitors worried it would be too steep, but that was not the case. We were able to take a leisurely stroll and even saw a porcupine working it's way through the brambles.

I was struck by the path's curve, the contrasts (not just in color but also between the manicured path and the forest detrius and untamed growth), and the primal curiosity of wondering what may be lurking unseen around the next corner.
