Studio Snapshots | Going off the Grid
A summary of what's happening in our knitting and weaving studio because we've chosen to step Off the Grid, away from social media.
I'm currently working on a commission piece for a 20 ft long hall runner with a rosepath threading in shades of blue, orange and gray. The weft is made of old, thrift shop bed sheets cut in 3/4 inch strips.
Meet Ukki, my rug loom. She was built by my grandpa. I like to think he built her just for me, but he probably didn't realize it as he was collecting materials and piecing her together.
My grandpa was a rug weaver and he sparked my interest in fiber arts and desire to learn how to weave (again, without ever knowing it). Now I work with Ukki to create durable, sustainable and artistic rugs giving tattered and discarded textiles a beautiful new life.
I'm one of the sponsors of the 2024 Marble Mystery Quilt Along hosted by Meadow Mist Designs. Participants who complete the quilt along have a chance to receive one of many great prizes and my prize contribution is this handwoven table runner.
I'm currently working on a pair of Crab Walk Socks because it's hot outside and I'm dreaming of being at the beach. Do you see the little red crabs splashing in the surf?
