Some of my favorite bags have a simple, clean, casual design. This pattern embodies that idea. It's a great everyday bag and can be worn as a backpack or over one shoulder like a purse.
The bag is unlined, but since the pattern stitch creates a fairly dense fabric, there's no need to worry about small items slipping out.
I used grey yarn because it's neutral and goes with just about everything. If you're feeling bold, the yarn is available in a variety of beautiful shades. You can check out different yarn colors at the affiliate link below.
Materials
- 3 - 3.5 oz skeins Bernat Satin Solid Yarn - Grey Mist Heather
- Size E crochet hook
- two stitch markers (optional)
- plastic yarn needle
Directions
Gauge: 20 sc or 24 rows = 4 inches
Straps - Make 2
Bag Bottom
The entire bag is worked with the wrong side facing in continuous rounds.
Rnd 2: *Sc in next 27 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* twice.
Rnd 3: *Sc in next 27 sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in next sc* twice.
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 27 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 3 times, 2 sc in next sc* twice.
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 27 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 5 times, 2 sc in next sc* twice.
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 27 sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times, sc in next sc* twice.
Sc in same sc. Remove stitch markers
Attach Straps to Bag Bottom
Bag Body
*Dc in next stitch, sc in next stitch* around.
Attach Straps to Bag Top
Continue working dc, sc pattern for one round until you reach the center of the back of the bag ending on a dc.
Drawstring
Ch 140
Row 1: Sc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across, fasten off.
Insert the Drawstring
Since the yarn is 100% acrylic, your bag is machine washable. Just follow the care instructions on the yarn label.
