Whenever knitters ask me to recommend a pattern for learning how to knit toe-up socks, I always direct them to the Ready, Set, Go (Toe-up) Socks Pattern. I designed this one for new sock knitters, as well as seasoned sock knitters who are interested in learning alternative heel construction methods. The socks feature an intentionally basic stitch pattern so you can focus on practicing three common heel shaping methods – short row, flapless gusset, or gusset and flap. The gusset and flap heel is a good fit for adults with an average instep. The gusset heel is a good fit for adults with a higher instep. The short row heel is a good fit for adults with a lower instep.

The Ready, Set, Go Socks pattern is graded to fit most adult feet. It's written in needle neutral terms and can be worked on dpns or circular needles with your favorite small circumference circular knitting method.
