Instead of beginning at the tip of the toe, this method allows you to start at the base of the toe.

The magic of double sided cast ons, like Judy's Magic Cast On, is that they allow you to knit in opposite directions on either side of the cast on stitches. This comes in very handy when when you're working short rows toes and you don't want to provisionally cast on stitches.
