Layers of hills and mountains rising up from a tree-lined horizon always takes my breath away. I've spent most of my life in the west and could always count on the mountains to provide stability and help me navigate my way through any situation. However, a trip east, to Stowe, Vermont, pushed me to capture a mountain view on the loom.
Although it was not my intention to duplicate the Vermont landscape exactly, two views certainly impacted my creative process.

Back at the studio, before weaving began I consider the grayscale version of my color choices.
For this piece I chose to use horizontal symmetry to represent the landscape and its reflection.

Since I typically weave my pieces from the bottom up, when creating reflected scenes, the first part of the weaving process is the "upside down" reflection.

Halfway through weaving, the "upside down" reflection turns into the "right side up" landscape.
